Nfocus Neuromedical has received European CE mark approval for its Luna Aneurysm Embolization System (Luna AES), which is indicated for the treatment of patients with brain aneurysms.
The Luna AES is designed to be a single-deployment, easy-to-use system for the treatment of both pre- and post-rupture brain aneurysms.
The Luna AES treats the brain aneurysm by blocking blood flow and providing a scaffold to promote the tissue growth across the aneurysm opening.
The device uses a self-expandable, multi-layer oval implant made from Nitinol, a nickel-titanium alloy.
According to Nfocus Neuromedical, the properties of the device allow it to be easily compressed within a catheter and then rapidly open to full size once delivered within an aneurysm.
