NextCare Urgent Care has named John Julian as chief executive officer for its network of urgent care clinics. Mr Julian is primed to help NextCare patient needs by filling the middle ground between primary care physicians and hospital Emergency Departments.

Mr Julian will succeed Dr John Shufeldt in managing one of the privately owned providers of urgent care and occupational medicine services with 56 clinics in Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, North Carolina, Texas and Virginia. Dr Shufeldt will continue to serve as NextCare’s chairman of the board.

According to NextCare Urgent Care, Mr Julian has a special expertise in structuring companies for rapid growth. He brings nearly two decades of experience in mergers and acquisitions for a wide range of healthcare companies specialising in everything from home services and devices to home nursing, pharmaceuticals and infusion therapy.

Mr Julian spent eight years as an entrepreneur, working with start-up companies in the pharmacy and personal services industries. Prior to that, he held an executive position with Lincare Holdings, the provider of respiratory therapy and other in-home patient services. During his 11-year tenure at Lincare, he helped the company increase its revenues to more than $1.2bn.

Dr Shufeldt said: “John is a healthcare champion who is eager to take NextCare to the next level. His proven track record, combined with in-depth knowledge of business and technology, will help NextCare continue its tradition of excellence and leadership.

John Julian said: “NextCare has a history of outstanding service and innovation. I am honored to have the opportunity to build upon NextCare’s successes and expand its reputation in clinical care, with patients, payors and providers.”
