Diabetics in the UK have been urged to check the blood glucose meters they use. Publicising the advice to individual users and healthcare workers the UK's Medicines and Healthcare products, Regulatory Agency (MHRA) warned the fault, found in two types of monitors manufactured by LifeScan, had the potential to affect around 22,000 people.

According to the regulator, the One Touch Verio Pro was likely to give falsely low readings, while the One Touch Verio IQ switches itself off if the user has a very high reading. Each issue could result in a delayed diagnosis and subsequently late treatment.
Users of either meter are being urged to contact the manufacturer directly, which will replace them at no cost.
