Nelson Laboratories, a provider of full, life-cycle microbiology testing services, has received the European Union's Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Compliance Certificate for its laboratory’s facilities and processes after the inspection was done by Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

The company believes that this certification will help expedite approval of products tested under its certified quality management systems.

Nelson Laboratories vice president of quality Jeff Hone noted manufacturers are obligated to defend their products and the supporting testing data.

"The GMP certification for Nelson Laboratories satisfies the requirements of the testing laboratory quality system as set by the EU Commission," Hone added.

The MHRA is responsible for regulating all medicines and medical devices in the UK by ensuring they work and are acceptably safe.

The MHRA is an executive agency of the UK Department of Health and an authorized representative of the EU.

It performs quality system inspections to assess the degree of conformity to prescribed relevant regulatory requirements of GMP established by EU compliance.
