Mid-Michigan Physicians, a multi-specialty group headquartered in Lansing, Michigan, has implemented the Allscripts Electronic Health Record (EHR) to provide 70 of their physicians and mid-level providers, located across seven locations, with the latest tools required to deliver high quality health care.

The Allscripts Electronic Health Record automates clinical workflow and gives physicians immediate access to critical data from hospitals, labs, pharmacies, payers and patients. Healthcare providers can access the Electronic Health Record at any time, whether they are in the clinic, at the hospital or on-call at home.

By automatically tracking key patient metrics and providing automated decision support, the web-based solution helps physicians evaluate and improve their practices and enables them to deliver effective disease management, preventive care, and long-range health maintenance.

The group first began to evaluate the Allscripts Electronic Health Record before the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced federal Stimulus incentive payments of between $44,000 and $64,000 to physicians who adopt and use electronic health records, under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). However the opportunity for Stimulus incentives under the ARRA accelerated the group’s Electronic Health Record purchase.

Michael Schafer, IT officer of Mid-Michigan Physicians, said: “Mid-Michigan Physicians is committed to making healthcare more effective and efficient for our patients, and the implementation of the Allscripts Electronic Health Record is a major step in that direction. We’ve been using the Allscripts Practice Management solution for five years to help streamline our office functions. Now, the quality and efficiency of care to our patients will be enhanced by moving to electronic health records.

“Our physicians knew that we would eventually move to an Electronic Health Record, but it was the promise of Stimulus funds that convinced us to do it. When it came time to make a decision, Allscripts was the clear winner. We were successfully using the practice management solution we’ve been happy with the service we’ve received and the history we have with the company.”

Glen Tullman, chief executive officer of Allscripts, said: “The selection of Allscripts by Mid-Michigan Physicians is more proof that leading physician groups who use our practice management solutions naturally turn to Allscripts when it’s time to select an Electronic Health Record and the time is now. 2010 will be the ‘Year of the EHR’.”
