Germany-based Miacom diagnostics has received approval from the Health Canada for its hemoFISH assays, which are designed to help identify and differentiate bacterial pathogens from positive blood culture bottles.

The assay range includes hemoFISH Gram (-) Panel to identify Gram negative bacteria, hemoFISH Gram (+) Panel to identify Gram positive bacteria, and hemoFISH Masterpanel to identify Gram negative bacteria and Gram positive bacteria.

Nova Century Scientific will distribute the assays in the country, which are said to be first tests of miacom to receive Health Canada approval.

Nova Century Scientific CEO Walter Schmidt said the company will provide new reliable tool for the rapid diagnostic of pathogens from blood cultures to customers in Canada.

"We are a company committed to meeting customer requirements and enhancing customer satisfaction through continual improvement of its products, services, and the quality of management," Schmidt added.

Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, which is part of the Halton Healthcare Services, is the first hospital in Canada to use the new rapid test system.

The company produces in vitro diagnostic tests for pathogens causing acute systemic diseases.
