Mevion Medical Systems has received CE mark approval for its Mevion S250 proton therapy system.

Proton beam radiation therapy permits the target dose precisely by complete proton absorption at predictable tissue depth, without any harm to sensitive structures.

Mevion said it is installing its three Mevion S250 proton therapy system in the US.

The first site at the Siteman Cancer Center in Barnes Jewish Hospital accepted delivery of Mevion’s superconducting synchrocyclotron in October 2011 and is now producing a 250 MeV energy beam.

The second and third installations at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Oklahoma University are underway and scheduled to be completed later in 2012.
