Medtronic has released Vertex select reconstruction system Occipitocervical Module in the US.

The Vertex Select Occipitocervical Module contains implants and an instrument set necessary for performing the surgical procedure that requires the base of the skull (occiput) to be fused, or joined, to the neck in a posterior approach.

Medtronic said that the Vertex Select Occipitocervical Module, used with the existing Vertex reconstruction system, offers adjustability through multiple plate designs, rods, screws, and hooks that gives surgeons more options during surgery, enabling them to tailor the procedure to each patient’s needs.

Rush University Medical Center in Chicago neurosurgeon Vincent Traynelis said that the flexibility of the Vertex Select reconstruction system helps to overcome challenges of occipitocervical fusion and the multiple fixation options provided by the Occipitocervical Module allow to adapt to patients’ anatomy and adjust my constructs as needed.
