Medtronic has reported positive clinical data showing that its AdaptiveStim with RestoreSensor neurostimulation system provides effective pain relief and convenience for many patients.

The AdaptiveStim with neurostimulator utilizes motion sensor technology which provides effective pain relief and convenience by automatically adjusting stimulation levels to the needs of people with chronic pain.

The crossover, multicenter, open-label, prospective and randomized study has enrolled 79 patients from 10 US centers.

In the study, 76 patients received implants and were randomized to receive either stimulation from the RestoreSensor device for six weeks with the AdaptiveStim technology turned on followed by six weeks with AdaptiveStim turned off, or six weeks with AdaptiveStim turned off followed by six weeks with AdaptiveStim turned on.

The study participants manually adjusted stimulation levels using a patient programmer, when AdaptiveStim was turned off.

RestoreSensor clinical trial investigator and MAPS Pain Clinics and MAPS Applied Research Center (MARC) founder and medical director David Schultz said the clinical study clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of position-adaptive stimulation technology in providing pain relief and convenience to patients suffering from chronic pain, so they can lead more normal lives.
