The European Union has granted CE mark to Medtronic's new self-expanding transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) system in a size of 23mm.

By using CoreValve Evolut technology, the CoreValve Evolut 23mm valve delivers low-profile 18Fr delivery catheter via transfemoral, subclavian and direct aortic access and promotes the sealing between the prosthetic valve and the native valve (TruFit Technology).

University Hospital Bonn spokesperson Eberhard Grube said the CoreValve System has been successfully implanted in tens of thousands of patients worldwide.

"Because the CoreValve Evolut technology customizes anatomical fit, it conforms to the patient’s anatomy and promotes sealing," Grube added.

In addition to valve size of 23mm, the company is offering 26mm, 29mm and 31mm sizes to treat various TAVI patient valve sizes.
