Medtronic and DaVita have established a new independent company, dubbed Mozarc Medical, to improve kidney health and patient-centred technology solutions.

In May last year, the two companies signed an agreement to form a new medical device company focused on kidney care to enhance patient outcomes and treatment experience.

Under the terms of the agreement, Mozarc Medical will be jointly owned by Medtronic and DaVita, where the two companies will hold equal equity stakes.

Medtronic said that the new company builds on its global workforce, including previous Medtronic Renal Care Solutions (RCS) business and other employees recruited to advance the new company’s strategic mission.

Along with Mozarc Medical CEO Ven Manda, an ex-RCS leadership team member joined the newly formed Mozarc Medical’s leadership team.

Manda said: “Mozarc Medical’s focus will be CEO Ven Manda said on meaningful and innovative kidney health technologies that improve the overall patient experience and increase access to care globally.

“At a time when patient preferences are evolving and in-home kidney care is on the rise, Mozarc Medical is uniquely positioned to better serve patients with kidney disease around the world.”

“With proven industry leadership, a strong product portfolio and R&D pipeline, and strategic investment from Medtronic and DaVita, Mozarc Medical is well-positioned for long-term success.”

DaVita is a healthcare provider focused on enhancing patient care delivery.

The company is one of the large providers of kidney care services in the US and has been delivering clinical quality for over two decades.

DaVita claims that it provides care for patients at different stages, from slowing the progression of kidney disease to helping support transplantation, from acute hospital care to dialysis at home.

It has served 200,000 patients at 2,724 outpatient dialysis centres in the US and operated 350 outpatient dialysis centres in 11 other countries worldwide, said the company.

DaVita group research and development vice president Mahesh Krishnan said: “The launch of Mozarc Medical holds tremendous promise to improve the lives of patients living with kidney disease as it seeks to revolutionise the approach to home dialysis by improving accessibility, ease of use, and clinical performance.

“Our investment in this venture is born from our decades-long commitment to advancing kidney care, and our aim is that it will fuel patient-centric solutions that may not have otherwise been possible.”
