MDI Hospital acquires Toshiba ultrasound to enable safe and less invasive exams

To perform more non-invasive exams with industry-leading depth and detail, Mount Desert Island (MDI) Hospital acquired the Aplio 500 Platinum ultrasound system from Toshiba America Medical Systems.

MDI Hospital, based in Bar Harbor, Maine, is leveraging the Aplio 500 Platinum ultrasound system’s advanced visualization technology, including Shear Wave elastography, to measure liver tissue elasticity and help diagnose patients presenting with Hepatitis C.

The system features powerful clinical imaging tools, including Shear Wave elastography, which enables MDI Hospital to non-invasively measure tissue stiffness of the liver.

Superb Micro-Vascular Imaging (SMI) allows clinicians to see small blood vessels and visualize low-velocity microvascular blood flow without the need for radiologic contrast agents or more invasive modalities, while MicroPure™ enables better visualization of breast microcalcifications compared to gray scale imaging. The Aplio 500 Platinum also includes Toshiba’s iStyle™ Productivity Suite, an adaptable user interface, delivering workflow automation tools for more efficient and precise exams.
