Komazawa University and Varian Medical Systems announced a new advanced radiotherapy education center in Japan.

Located on the Komazawa campus in Tokyo, the education center is equipped with a fully functional Varian TrueBeam medical linear accelerator and offers hands-on educational courses for medical professionals and students on the planning and delivery of advanced radiotherapy for the treatment of cancer.

The goal of the educational courses is to enhance the knowledge and skills of health professionals on the delivery of radiotherapy using Varian technology, as well as establish standards for radiotherapy education at Komazawa University.

The educational courses will utilize the TrueBeam system integrated with the company's suite of oncology and radiotherapy software, including Eclipse treatment planning system, and ARIA® oncology information system.

"With the increasing number of cancer cases in Japan, it is critical to increase the number of skilled professionals who can deliver radiotherapy treatments at a high standard," said Masao Hoshina, Professor at Faculty of Health Science.

"By collaborating with Varian on this radiotherapy education center, we have the opportunity to expand the pool of qualified professionals and maximize the use of this important technology in the fight against cancer."

"We are honored to collaborate with Komazawa University on this new advanced radiotherapy education center," said Mitchell Silong, managing director Oncology Systems Japan at Varian.
