Kinetic Concepts (KCI) has reported that Ron Silverman has been appointed as senior vice president and chief medical officer. Beginning in August, Dr Silverman will be responsible for KCI’s medical and clinical strategies across the globe as the company continues to expand its product portfolio and enter new markets around the world.

Dr Silverman has been on staff at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where he served as chief of the division of plastic surgery and associate professor of surgery. He has widely recognised clinical expertise in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, complex wound management, abdominal wall reconstruction and tissue engineering for reconstructive surgery.

KCI said that for several years, Dr Silverman has served on its scientific advisory board. He also has been a speaker for a number of years at surgeon forums hosted by LifeCell, KCI’s regenerative medicine unit.

Cathy Burzik, president and CEO of KCI, said: “Ron demonstrates an amazing passion for medical innovation and a deep commitment to making an impact on the lives of patients. As KCI introduces new medical technologies in more places around the world than ever, clinical evidence and patient efficacy will remain paramount in all we do. Ron has strong clinical relationships globally and will work with physicians to identify areas of unmet need and to develop innovative research programs that support new product introductions.”
