Medical and surgical equipment manufacturers Intuitive Surgical and Trumpf Medical have launched the Integrated Table Motion for the robotic-assisted surgical system da Vinci Xi in Europe.

The product is a culmination of Intuitive’s robotic-assisted surgical system and Trumpf’s advanced operating table TruSystem 7000dV, which enables surgeons and anesthesiologists to make table adjustments during da Vinci Surgery.

According to the partners, the ability to reposition the operating table with the surgical robotic arms docked addresses the need for operating room efficiency and maximizes access, exposure and reach during a robotic-assisted surgical procedure.

The result of five years of partnership between the two firms, the table maximises the reach and access to target anatomy, the device enables surgeons to interact with tissue at an ideal working angle.

Intuitive Surgical senior vice-president and chief medical officer Myriam Curet said: "Hospitals and surgeons are seeking integration of systems, tools and processes in the operating theater.

"Our work with Trumpf Medical in creating Integrated Table Motion is an important advancement on this front."

The surgical system and table move in tandem to maintain consistent orientation to the patient’s anatomy.

The da Vinci Surgical Systems are used for minimally invasive surgery. They offer surgeons high-definition 3D vision, a magnified view, and robotic and computer assistance.

The system is indicated for use in urologic surgical procedures, general laparoscopic surgical procedures, gynecologic laparoscopic surgical procedures, general thoracoscopic surgical procedures and thoracoscopically-assisted cardiotomy procedures.

Trumpf Medical global R&D and marketing executive director Kamran Tahbazian said: "Our collaboration demonstrates the true power of partnership.

"When innovative, focused companies come together in a true spirit of cooperation, good things can happen. We are proud of this new, enabling capability in minimally invasive surgery."

Trumpf introduced the TruSystem 7000 table in Europe in 2014. It is now available in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

The table has a modular design and is made of lightweight material. With a longitudinal shift of 457mm, the product offer C-arm access.
