IntraPac International, a provider of rigid packaging solutions and high precision injection moulded components, has acquired Precision Concepts Costa Rica (PCCR) for an undisclosed sum.

Situated outside San Jose, PCCR is a vertically integrated moulder and assembler of medical devices.

The company specialises in designing, validation, moulding and assembly of plastic components and sub-assemblies for medical device products used in complex medical procedures such as aortic valve replacements, nasal endoscopies and vascular surgeries.

PCCR founder Vince Marino said: “Over the past 30 years, we have built PCCR into Costa Rica’s premier medical device manufacturer and it was personally important to me to find the right partner to lead the company through its next stage of growth.”

PCCR will continue to be managed by its existing leadership team. At present, investments are underway to expand the firm’s clean room capacity at a recently acquired building within the Saret Industrial Park.

The company is also located near Envasa, IntraPac’s Costa Rican operation and a manufacturer of rigid packaging solutions for the pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and personal care industries.

IntraPac also stated that existing PCCR customers will be able to leverage its large component moulding and high speed automated assembly capabilities in Mebane of North Carolina, and the firm’s  manual assembly and clean room moulding capabilities in the Dominican Republic.

IntraPac CEO Ray Grupinski said: “PCCR is a world class medical manufacturer with a dynamic workforce, state-of-the-art clean rooms and sterling reputation within the medical OEM community.

“Through this partnership, we are now a larger and more vertically integrated manufacturer with a wider set of products, processes, capabilities and facilities to offer our collective customers.”

Based in Mooresville of North Carolina, IntraPac manufactures specialty rigid packaging solutions such as sticks, jars, vials, closures, spouts, bottles, and tubes for the medical, pharmaceutical, personal care, and nutraceutical industries.

The company, which is also a custom injection moulder of plastic components, operates 12 manufacturing facilities in Canada, the US, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic.
