Incisive Surgical, a privately-held medical device company that develops mechanical surgical solutions for skin closure, has reported that USPTO has issued it a patent for Insorb Absorbable Skin Stapling Technology.

Incisive Surgical offers a mechanical stapler that deploys absorbable staples that are placed underneath the skin to close incisions. The patent broadly covers the wound closure stapling apparatus.

The Insorb Absorbable Skin Staple combines comfort, convenience and cosmetic result of absorbable suture with the rapid closure times associated with metal skin staplers, while eliminating the need to remove metal staples post-operatively.

The Insorb Absorbable Staple is comprised of a biocompatible material, which is absorbed over a period of a few months.

John Shannon, president and chief executive officer of Incisive Surgical, said: “We have patents covering all three essential core elements of our Insorb Technology the method, the absorbable staple, and the mechanical stapler.

“The Insorb Absorbable Skin Stapler represents a revolutionary skin closure modality, offering unique benefits to patients, clinicians and hospitals. This new patent recognizes the ingenuity of our development team and the novelty of the Insorb Technology.”
