Hitachi Medical Systems Europe has introduced new open high-field 1.2T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), OASIS, at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) Annual Meeting in Vienna, Austria, which is being held from 4 to 8 March.

The new MRI system can be used for neurology, orthopedics, pediatrics, oncology, vascular and general imaging, as well as men’s and women’s health applications.

Hitachi Medical Systems Europe MR/CT division director Keiichi Yusa said: "We are very pleased to bring with the new generation of OASIS our patient-centric philosophy to new levels in open high-field MRI."

"The open architecture is a truly valued and complementary tool for healthcare providers who have an array of scanners but consider this flexibility to be an essential offering for their service."

The system’s 270° viewing angle enables the patient an unobstructed panoramic view and the extra wide patient table (82cm) with in-gantry lateral movement, modern SoftSound technology and multiple coil connections provides support for the operator for rapid and patient-friendly exams.

It also features advanced clinical capabilities such as origin clinical study library, graphical user interface (GUI), intelligent parameter guidance and real-time image quality calculator, allowing the planning of complex examinations in an easy manner.

In addition, the system’s additive arrangement gradient echo (ADAGE) uses combinations of multiple echoes to create high signal to noise ratio (SNR) and contrast to noise ratio (CNR) images with reduced chemical shift, improved grey or white matter differentiation and fluid/cartilage visualization.
