US-based health care products provider Henry Schein has agreed to purchase a majority stake in Brazil’s dental distribution business, Dental Cremer.

Based in Blumenau, Dental Cremer is a distributor of dental supplies and equipment in Brazil.

With around 530 team members, Dental Cremer provides services to around 60,000 dental practitioners across Brazil. It has reported sales of around $70m in 2015.

Henry Schein board chairman and CEO Stanley Bergman said: "As Brazil’s dental market grows, fueled by an aging population and an expanding middle class, Henry Schein and Dental Cremer share a commitment to helping practitioners in Brazil operate successful practices and provide quality care to patients."

Dental Cremer CEO Paulo Batista and other members of the company will retain an ownership interest in the acquired business.

Batista said: "Henry Schein has demonstrated its steadfast commitment to serving the needs of dental practitioners and the patients they serve throughout the world for more than eight decades."

Subject to regulatory approval and other conditions, the deal is expected to complete in the first half of this year.

Last November, the firm agreed to purchase a 90% stake in Italy-based dental consumable merchandise and equipment provider, Dental Trey.

Dental Trey distributes around 33,000 branded products and a line of private-label products to dental practices across the country.

Henry Schein provides digital dental technology solutions to office-based general dental practitioners, dental specialists and dental laboratories.
