HealthTrust Purchasing Group has awarded a contract to SurgiCount Medical to provide its SurgiCount Safety-Sponge System.
Under the contract, SurgiCount will provide its Safety-Sponge System to member facilities of HealthTrust including approximately 1,400 hospitals and 10,600 ambulatory surgical centers.
Patient Safety Technologies president and chief executive officer Brian Stewart said the company is pleased to partner with HealthTrust to offer its members a solution to improve patient outcomes and reduce preventable costs.
"At a time of intensifying industry focus on the prevention of retained surgical sponges, all HealthTrust members will get access to the market leading solution to prevent this common but preventable surgical error," Stewart added.
The Safety-Sponge System is designed to improve patient safety and reduce healthcare costs by preventing retainment of foreign objects during surgeries.
