The partnership will see the integration of Optellum's FDA-approved software platform for early-stage lung cancer with AI solutions powered by GE Healthcare’s Edison platform
GE Healthcare has partnered with Optellum to advance precision diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer with artificial intelligence (AI).
The partnership is aimed at helping healthcare providers to assess the malignancy of a lung nodule and a suspicious lesion that may be benign or cancerous.
Optellum is engaged in providing AI decision support for the early diagnosis and optimal treatment of lung cancer, while GE Healthcare is a major player in medical imaging solutions.
The Virtual Nodule Clinic, the AI-powered clinical decision support software developed by Optellum, allows to identify and score the probability of malignancy in a lung nodule, which is considered as important in determining the need for a biopsy.
The AI-assisted diagnosis software is already secured approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for early-stage lung cancer.
According to Optellum, the software holds the capability to enhance the sensitivity and specificity of malignancy assessments of indeterminate nodules, allowing to make optimal clinical decisions.
As part of the partnership, GE intends to work with Optellum to integrate the software platform with AI solutions powered by GE Healthcare’s Edison platform.
In addition, the company will partner with Optellum’s sales team on the distribution of the Virtual Nodule Clinic.
Under the partnership, the two companies also plan to add Optellum’s Lung Cancer Prediction AI results into the existing workflow of GE Healthcare technological pathways, including CT and PACS.

Separately, GE Healthcare introduced nearly 60 innovative technology solutions at the Radiological Society of North America’s (RSNA) 2021 Annual Meeting.
The solutions are designed for patient screening, diagnostics, therapy planning, guidance, and monitoring.
