GE Healthcare has entered into a strategic collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to provide artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud-based imaging solutions to hospitals and healthcare providers.
The partnership will also offer integrated data and clinical and operational insight services to hospitals and healthcare providers.
GE Healthcare intends to provide AI-based imaging applications and Edison Health Services platform on AWS, thereby enabling healthcare providers to replace the traditional care delivery model in the hospital setting with a decentralised model that is virtual and distributed.
GE Healthcare’s Edison Health Services platform will allow hospital customers to incorporate and assimilate significant amounts of data from disparate sources using the cloud, thereby helping to improve clinical efficiency and productivity.
GE Healthcare intends to support providers to scale their ability to securely and compliantly combine all healthcare data types and formats to extract insights and provide better access to regulatory cleared AI algorithms and applications by integrating them into existing workflows.
Under the collaboration, GE Healthcare’s AI-enabled imaging solution Edison TruePACS Picture Archive and Communication System (PACS) will be available on the AWS.
The medical imaging storage system offers hospitals an AI-enabled and diagnostic imaging cloud solution, as well as serves as a secure alternative to help enhance access to care and deliver clinical insights.
GE Healthcare will also provide its Edison data aggregation and AI analytics platform on AWS to support developers access the platform. It will help build, test and validate new AI models and facilitate the adoption of novel applications into clinical workflows.
The company also intends to offer additional products within its imaging portfolio on AWS, including AI-based advanced image processing applications.
GE Healthcare chief digital officer Amit Phadnis said: “As the world moves towards a more virtualised and distributed care delivery model with home care, remote patient management, and increased use of AI, radiologists and other clinicians need easy access to data that is seamlessly integrated, aggregated, and visualized in applications and services across modalities and within their existing workflows.”
