Garmin International has rolled out the Dexcom Connect IQ apps to enhance experience for people using Dexcom G6 Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) System.

With the new apps, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes patients will be able to rapidly visualise their glucose levels and trends on their compatible Garmin smartwatch or cycling computer.

Dexcom G6 integrated continuous glucose monitoring (iCGM) system has received the US Food and Drug Administration marketing approval in March 2018.

It was indicated for determining the levels of blood glucose in children aged two years and above, and in adults with diabetes.

The Dexcom Connect IQ apps helps the people with diabetes to track their glucose levels any time, and are currently available at the Connect IQ store, said Garmin.

Garmin worldwide sales vice president Dan Bartel said: “Dexcom’s CGM systems have revolutionized how people live with diabetes, and we are thrilled to offer our customers an even more convenient way to see their glucose levels.

“Users can not only see which way their glucose levels are trending without having to take their phone out, but can even do so while working out, when glucose levels have the potential to fluctuate quickly.”

Garmin said that its Dexcom Connect IQ app is developed for use with wide range of the company’s smartwatches, and provides an alternative for diabetes patients to easily track their glucose levels.

The app enables patients to view readings of their glucose levels and trends to get a clear idea of their numbers, along with a 3-hour history of glucose levels.

With Dexcom Connect IQ data field, users will also be able to see both their glucose levels and performance stats while they are out for a run, bike ride or other activities, said Garmin.

Furthermore, users can track their glucose levels and performance when using a compatible smartwatch or Edge cycling computer, without needing to use their smartphone.

Dexcom chief technology officer Jake Leach said: “The addition of Garmin wearables and cycling computers to the Dexcom CGM ecosystem is an exciting advancement for Dexcom users who are now able to easily view and monitor their glucose levels from their favourite Garmin device.

“Garmin is our first partner to connect to Dexcom G6 through our new real-time API – showcasing the value of integrated CGM and further solidifying Dexcom G6 as the most powerful and connected CGM in the world.”
