Texas-based Foundation Surgical Hospital (FSH), an associated facility of Foundation Surgical Hospital Affiliates (FSHA), has purchased Mazor Robotics' Renaissance system, a surgical guidance system which is designed for use in spine procedures.

The robotic system delivers less radiation and is used in minimally invasive surgery, scoliosis, and other complex spinal deformity cases.

Alamo Neurosurgical Institute executive director Michael Leonard said as a neurosurgeon, he appreciates the benefits of a robotic technology that allows to perform surgery with more precision, accuracy and less risk.

"This technology is the wave of the future, and I’m excited about being on the forefront of its introduction to the spine surgery community in San Antonio," Leonard added.

"I’m thrilled to be working with Mazor and honored to be the first surgeon to bring robotic spine surgery to San Antonio."

Mazor CEO Ori Hadomi said, "FSH of San Antonio is well known for adopting the latest advancements in neurological and spinal surgery, and we are looking forward to working closely with Dr. Leonard in utilizing the Renaissance technology in his spinal surgical practice."
