First Coast Oncology has ordered for RaySearch Laboratories' RayStation treatment planning system, which features multi-criteria optimization tools with full support for 4D adaptive radiation therapy.

First Coast Oncology, located in Jacksonville, Florida, US, is involved in providing radiation oncology solution, designed for treating all types of cancer.

First Coast Oncology said it will implement RayStation in its conventional radiation treatment planning, including IMRT with multi-criteria optimization, as well as full deformable registration, beginning in the fourth quarter of 2012.

In addition, RaySearch will collaborate with Mevion Medical Systems and First Coast Oncology to provide planning services for the Jacksonville Mevion Proton Therapy Center that is scheduled to open in 2013.

First Coast Oncology medical director Scot Ackerman said, "Providing our patients with exceptional cancer treatments is our goal and I feel that RaySearch is the best fit for our needs."

RaySearch president Marc Mlyn said First Coast Oncology will be the first MEVION S250 Proton Therapy System / RayStation turnkey solution to be installed in 2013.

"Once validated and put into clinical use, the deformable registration combined with multi-modality dose accumulation and adaptive re-planning will represent a powerful weapon in the battle against cancer," Mlyn added.
