The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared Bausch + Lomb's enVista glistening-free, single-piece hydrophobic acrylic Intraocular Lens (IOL).
enVista lens, developed by Advanced Vision Science (AVS), is designed to provide good mechanical characteristics and clarity for the vision.
On March 3, 2009, AVS, a subsidiary of Santen Pharmaceutical, and Bausch + Lomb have signed a license agreement for enVista lens.
Under the agreement, AVS granted Bausch + Lomb the right to develop manufacture its foldable hydrophobic acrylic IOL material in all geographic regions except Japan.
The enVista lens received CE mark approval in September 2011 and is currently pending approval in other countries.
