The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved new features associated with Siemens Healthcare's new Biograph mCT positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT )scanner.

The Biograph mCT is designed to provide precise measurement of metabolic processes and data qualification, as well as cardiac blood flow.

The Biograph mCT includes the company’s Optiso high definition ( HD) detector system, which features a fine volumetric resolution of 87 mm.

It also includes the company’s Time of Flight (TOF) and HD-PET, ensuring fast, precise images with minimum radiation dose.

The system also features a patient handling system, the Auto Cardiac Registration, which automatically aligns CT and PET heart images and reduces variability between users.

Siemens has added a new form of attenuation correction, Molecular and Anatomical Registration Technologies, for neurological images that doesn’t require CT data.

The company said, in neurology, noninvasive assessment of the brain can improve the diagnosis and management of patients who present with signs of dementia.
