Precision cancer diagnostics company Epredia has started the sale of SlideMate Laser, a precision slide printing system for pathology laboratories, in the US.

SlideMate Laser, the latest addition to Epredia’s SlideMate portfolio of slide printers, is used in labs to detect and help track tissue samples.

US-based Epredia has designed SlideMate Laser for clinical laboratories of any size seeking to enhance sample traceability.

According to the precision cancer diagnostics firm, the printing system has a high-resolution, 600-dpi laser printing on microscope slides.

This allows labs to print more identifying information right on the tab of the slides that pathologists utilise in the cancer detection workflow.

This technology is said to enhance patient sample monitoring and efficiency by embedding up to 50 characters in a barcode on each slide, compared to the 23 characters that may be found in typical thermal transfer and inkjet technologies.

In addition, SlideMate Laser significantly improves laboratory productivity by streamlining slide motions through the printer and minimising possible downtime in comparison to thermal transfer and inkjet printers.

Epredia said that users can expect lower operational costs without the need to purchase, ink, bulbs or tape for slide printers.

The system can also be integrated into a variety of processes due to its both batch and on-demand printing options.

Furthermore, the laser printer’s software is easy to use and can be immediately interfaced to a Laboratory Information System.

Epredia’s SlideMate portfolio includes precision cancer diagnostics products and services that provide a smooth end-to-end laboratory workflow.

The company also provides the specific slides made for SlideMate Laser to assist labs in seamlessly converting to precision laser printing.

This comprises adhesion slides with Superfrost PLUS technology and non-adhesion slides with Superfrost technology to optimise tissue adherence.

The precision slide printing system is produced by Fa-Tech Diagnostics Italia, which was purchased by Epredia’s parent company PHC Holdings in 2021.

Epredia manufactures all the SlideMate Laser slides at its Portsmouth, New Hampshire facility in the US.
