eHealth Technologies has entered into a collaboration agreement to embed digital imaging capability in InterSystems' HealthShare strategic informatics platform by using its eHealth Imaging Solutions.

eHealth Imaging Solutions is designed for delivering images along with results, which enable care providers to gain single-click access to diagnostic-quality images such as X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, and ultrasounds.

In addition, eHealth Imaging will provide images prior to report generation which enables emergency care providers to treat the patient in most vital situations.

InterSystems HealthShare Dominick Bizzarro said global business manager said, "eHealth Technologies shares our vision for connected care by empowering healthcare providers and physicians with secure, timely access to all patient data, including diagnostic-quality PACS images."

eHealth Technologies president Ken Rosenfeld said imaging is a vital piece of the patient record that has typically been difficult and and not linked to the systems clinicians use on a daily basis, leading to repeat tests which are not only expensive for patients and payers, but expose the patient to unnecessary radiation exposure.

"The importance of embedding image access within electronic health record (EHR) and health information exchange (HIE) systems is further supported by the Meaningful Use Stage 2 criteria," Rosenfeld added.

InterSystems said the digital imaging capability will be available on its HealthShare in fall 2012.
