Ethicon Endo-Surgery (EES) has launched a new 5mm ENDOPATH XCEL trocar with OPTIVIEW Technology to reduce smudging of the endoscope or laparoscope during surgical procedures.

EES claims the ENDOPATH XCEL with OPTIVIEW Technology reduces the need to re-clean the endoscope when it is reinserted into the trocar after cleaning, resulting in fewer interruptions that may lead to maintained procedural flow.

The OPTIVIEW Technology cleans bodily fluid off the endoscope, wicks it away and absorbs it – thus minimizing the presence of bodily fluid, tissue and debris within the seal system and on the scope lens when reinserted through the trocar.

EES Minimally Invasive Procedures/Endomechanical Global Marketing director Tom Brien said Smudging is an issue surgeons deal with, as repeated cleaning continues to be a necessity in restoring the surgical field of vision in minimally invasive procedures such as bariatric, colorectal and gynecologic surgery.

"ENDOPATH XCEL with OPTIVIEW Technology addresses surgeons to focus more on the surgical experience and the patient and less on the tools they are using," Brien said.
