Duke University Medical Center has adopted RF Surgical Systems' RF Assure detection system, for use in all of its operating rooms.
The RF Assure system features a detection mat which is placed under the patient on the surgical table.
Prior to closure of the surgical site, RF Assure’s radio-frequency (RF) detection technology is employed to identify and prevent the presence of surgical sponges, gauze or towels inside a patient’s body.
The real-time detection also facilitates clinicians to prevent retained surgical items (RSI) and unnecessary X-rays and repeat surgeries without interrupting workflow, thus helping in lowering anesthesia time for patients.
Duke University Medical Center director Marsha Porter said this system, together with their extensive surgical safety processes, further enhances their primary commitment to the delivery of safe and optimal surgical care.
