Downey Regional Medical Center (DRMC) is providing new cardiac technology at its new cardiac catherization lab.

DRMC said the new technology is designed to treat cardiac disease and other vascular blockages.

DRMC interventional cardiologist president Kaushal Tamboli said the technology of the new cath lab gives optimal advancements in helping patients fight heart disease, recover from heart attacks and improve the quality of their lives.

"During a catherization procedure, a thin catheter is inserted and carefully guided into the blood vessels of the heart, creating a digital fluoroscopic video of the progress of the procedure," Tamboli added.

"The cathertization process also allows us to insert stents and other small devices to open blocked arteries and restore blood flow to the heart."
