Health technology company DexCom has integrated its Dexcom G7 Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System with Tandem Diabetes Care’s t:slim X2 insulin pump in the US.
Dexcom G7 is claimed by DexCom to be the smallest, most accurate CGM system. It has a 30-minute sensor warmup and urgent low soon alert while removing the need for fingersticks from day one.
It also allows sharing of glucose data with family and care teams in real-time via remote monitoring capabilities.
The combination with t:slim X2 is said to be the first automated insulin delivery (AID) system integration with the Dexcom G7 CGM.
It will allow the users of t:slim X2 insulin pump to spend more time in a closed loop with minimal to no wait time between Dexcom G7 CGM sensor sessions. The t:slim X2 pump comes with the Control-IQ technology.
In addition, the users who use either a Dexcom G6 or Dexcom G7 CGM sensor will have more flexibility in their diabetes management.
A seven-year follow-up from a study called COMISAIR showed a significant reduction in HbA1c when Dexcom CGM was connected to the Tandem t:slim X2 insulin pump.
Dexcom chief operating officer and executive vice president Jake Leach said: “We pioneered industry-leading CGM connectivity more than a decade ago and are the only CGM company to have safely powered AID systems for more than 1 million patient years of cumulative use.
“The clinically meaningful health outcomes that result from using the t:slim X2 insulin pump with Control-IQ technology are proven only when the system is connected to Dexcom CGM technology.”
Tandem Diabetes Care will send instructions via email to all American customers of the t:slim X2 still under warranty. It will offer them the option to install the additional feature for free through a remote software update.
New orders for tandem t:slim X2 pumps are pre-configured with Dexcom G7 integration, DexCom said.

The integrated system is currently available through Durable Medical Equipment (DME) dealers, with pharmacy availability scheduled to begin in early January 2024.
