Consort Medical plc (Consort Medical) has appointed Peter Fellner as chairman of the company, effective May 1, 2009. As chairman, Peter will succeed John Robinson who has been chairman for more than five years. Currently, Fellner is the senior independent director and chair of the remuneration committee. He becomes deputy chairman of the company, effective February 13, 2009.

Before this, Fellner served as chief executive officer (CEO) of Celltech Group PLC (Celltech) from 1990 to 2003 and as Chairman from 2003 until its acquisition for GBP1.53 billion in 2004. Fellner joined Celltech from Roche UK, where he served as CEO from 1986 to 1990.

Fellner is chairman of Vernalis PLC and Astex Therapeutics Ltd, and a non-executive director of UCB S.A., QinetiQ Group plc and Evotec AG. He also chaired Acambis plc from 2006 to September 2008, until its acquisition by Sanofi Aventis for GBP280 million.
