CommuniCare Health Centers, a Federally Qualified Health Center based in San Antonio, has received grant from St David's Foundation to help fund the construction of a dental clinic in its health center that is currently under construction in Kyle, Texas, with an estimated September 2010 opening date.

Reportedly, to be located two miles east of Interstate 35 in Kyle, the new health center will offer comprehensive medical, dental, behavioral health and health education services for children and adults. The community health center, a 20,732 square-foot facility, will offer services on a sliding-fee scale to uninsured residents.

The $852,343 grant from St David’s Foundation will fund the construction of a dental wing at the new health center, where comprehensive dental care will be provided to patients of all ages.

Debbora Thompson, chief executive officer of CommuniCare Health Centers, said: “This grant will provide a state of-the-art dental facility that will enable CommuniCare to provide critically needed dental services to children, individuals and families in the Kyle area. St David’s Foundation has a great track record of helping to provide dental care at schools and clinics across Central Texas. We look forward to working with St David’s Foundation to help provide essential dental services for the underserved in Hays County and south Austin.”

Earl Maxwell, CEO of St David’s Foundation, said: “CommuniCare’s new health center in Kyle will provide greatly needed primary and preventive care for families in Kyle and south Austin. St David’s is excited to begin this new partnership with CommuniCare and to help provide access to dental care in Hays County.

“Along with the financial support for the CommuniCare dental clinic in Kyle, St David’s Foundation is investing over $27m in the Central Texas community this year to improve access to health care.”
