Danish medical devices maker Coloplast has agreed to acquire Swedish company Atos Medical from PAI Partners for €2.15bn.

Established in 1986, Atos Medical provides personalised care and innovative solutions to restore speaking ability after surgical removal of the patients’ voice box.

The company has developed laryngectomy category to deliver end-to-end solutions ranging from surgical intervention to lifetime care for patients living with laryngectomy.

Atos Medical CEO Meelby Jensen said: “Atos Medical is an undisputed leader in chronic neck stomas care, and we are well-positioned for long-term growth.

“Our companies have comparable business models, and the acquisition will enable us to leverage Coloplast’s strengths to serve more people living with a neck stoma even better than today.”

Atos Medica offers various devices, including voice prosthesis for speaking, heat and moisture exchangers (HMEs), adhesives and laryngectomy tubes for breathing, as well as devices for speaking hands-free and accessories.

The company’s product portfolio consists of Provox Life Home HME, Provox Life Go HME, Provox Life Night HME, Provox Protector, Provox LaryTube Sizer Kit, Provox Vega and multiple other products.

With around 1,150 employees, Atos Medical serves customers in around 90 countries and has a direct presence in 30 nations across the world.

Coloplast president and CEO Kristian Villumsen said: “Our companies have comparable business models, and the acquisition will enable us to leverage Coloplast’s strengths to serve more people living with a neck stoma even better than today. Coloplast is a world-leading medical device company with an impressive track record.”

Subject to customary regulatory approvals, the deal is expected to complete in the second quarter of 2021/22.

Moelis is acting as a financial advisor to Coloplast on the transaction, while Kromann Reumert is serving as a legal advisor to Coloplast.

With around 12,500 employees, Coloplast develops products and services for ostomy care, continence care, wound and skincare and interventional urology.

In November last year, Coloplast wrapped up the acquisition of Nine Continents Medical.
