US-based Colbert Packaging has introduced a new patient adherence package MedLock EZ, which is an alternative to amber prescription vials.

Due to its paperboard-based design, MedLock EZ offers better branding and sustainability benefits, noted Colbert.

Colbert Packaging product development vice-president Glenn Grosskopf said: "While patient nonadherence continues to plague the industry, and is often the primary driver behind a switch from nondescript pharmacy vials to branded unit dose packages, the packaging alternatives must do more than just promote adherence.

"MedLock EZ is a compact, all-in-one package that provides security and sustainability – and promotes patient adherence."

MedLock EZ includes an outer paperboard shell housing a pill blister card, which is locked into place with an integrated and patent-pending locking mechanism.

The large printable of the package can be used for brand attributes, as well as medication details, dosing instructions, dates and other information.

According to the company, the new adherence package has tested to F=1 for child-resistant and senior-friendly effectiveness, highest safety marks of CPSC.
