Cohera Medical, a developer of surgical adhesives, has received CE mark approval for its TissuGlu Surgical Adhesive.
TissuGlu is an internal surgical adhesive used during large flap surgeries, such as abdominoplasties, that reduces fluid accumulation and the need for postsurgical drains.
TissuGlu’s chemical composition is non-toxic, resorbable and forms a strong bond between tissue layers and aids in natural healing.
TissuGlu adheres the tissue flap to the underlying tissue to reduce fluid that can accumulate in the space and reduces the time to drain removal and lead to quicker recovery to normal activity.
University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery chief Peter Rubin said TissuGlu Surgical Adhesive provides an approach to the way plastic surgeons address wound drainage challenges and helps plastic surgeons improve the overall care of their patients.
Cohera Medical CEO and president Patrick Daly said they look forward to begin their commercialization in Germany which they believe will demonstrate commercial viability for TissuGlu Surgical Adhesive and serve as a springboard for expansion across the EU and the US.
