Cognizant has teamed up with Microsoft to develop a new virtual healthcare solution to advance remote patient monitoring for enhanced medical care.

The new solution will leverage components of the Microsoft’s Cloud for Healthcare platform, which combines remote patient monitoring with virtual health.

The platform uses devices such as smart watches, blood pressure monitors, and glucose meters to collect the health data, and communicate with patients and providers.

Being an early Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare partner, Cognizant has designed its solution to leverage Microsoft Azure services, including FHIR, API Services, and Teams integration.

Its new digital health solution will enhance patient engagement, personalised care, patient monitoring, and facilitate improved patient outcomes, said the company.

Cognizant Healthcare head Surya Gummadi said: “The bridging of technology and healthcare is creating new opportunities to improve how providers monitor the health of their patients and engage with them for time-sensitive interventions.

“Utilizing data analytics, secure cloud technology and interoperability products, our collaboration with Microsoft offers a unique, scalable solution that aims to connect providers and patients, and enhances the quality, timeliness, and personalization of healthcare.”

Cognizant said that its current collaboration is backed by its dedicated Microsoft Business Group.

The collaboration combines Cognizant’s digital modernisation expertise with Microsoft’s focus on building Industry Clouds to deliver a complete commercial healthcare solution.

The new solution would offer patient insights to healthcare providers sing its built-in analytics, in addition to detecting early signs of potential chronic conditions.

Also, its remote capabilities would enable telehealth visits, which eliminate the limitations in care delivery for patients with accessibility constraints, said Cognizant.

Microsoft global healthcare and life sciences corporate vice president Tom McGuinness said: “Cognizant’s new virtual healthcare solution utilizes differentiated capabilities, built on the secure and compliant Microsoft Cloud, that make it easy for people to collect and share health data using their own devices.

“We look forward to combining our technologies and collective expertise to deliver additional solutions that offer high quality healthcare and enable patient well-being.”
