Medical technology firm Clarius Mobile Health has secured Health Canada’s approval for its third-generation range of high-performance handheld ultrasound scanners.
Clarius HD3 scanners can be wirelessly connected with clinicians’ Apple and Android smart devices via an AI-powered application.
They are now 30% smaller, lighter, and more affordable in terms of pricing, said the company.
According to Clarius, the scanners are suitable for app-based ultrasound systems for rapid bedside diagnosis.
The entire Clarius HD3 range of ultra-portable scanners is made with antenna technology for reliable communication and connection with both iOS and Android smartphones.
When compared to other existing comparable handhelds, the presence of octal beamforming technology provides up to eight times higher frame rates and micron-level resolution, said the medical technology firm.
Clarius president Ohad Arazi said: “As a Vancouver-based company, it’s especially gratifying to enable more Canadian clinicians to use our affordable and intuitive ultrasound scanners to make an accurate diagnosis, confidently treat patients, and safely guide procedures.
“Our new Clarius HD3 is no bigger than my iPhone, yet it offers the same high-performance imaging as a traditional ultrasound scanner for a fraction of the cost.
“Plus, we’ve replaced complex knobs and buttons with artificial intelligence and touch-based controls, so it’s as easy to operate as your smartphone.”
Clarius HD3 scanners are now available at a price starting at C$3,965 and an annual membership fee of C$785, including access to all advanced software-as-a-service (SaaS), enhanced education options, and unlimited exam management in the Clarius Cloud, said the company.
Clarius announced the launch of this third-generation product line of high-performance handheld wireless ultrasound scanners in January this year.
The device received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last year.
