The proposed work would continue a spate of recent 3D design and printing projects for CHGT as the company seeks to grow its revenue stream.

"This is a key project for us as it could open other doors into the lucrative medical and healthcare industries," said CHGT CEO Marco Valenzuela.

"The medical field has many 3D printing opportunities and by adding this project to our portfolio, we’ll able to show we have the knowledge, innovation and experience to meet the industry’s complex design and manufacturing needs. This project would further solidify our revenue base."

The headrest project offers several unique challenges for CHGT. The MRI testing environment limits the fabrication materials that can be used. They cannot interfere or disrupt image resolution or clarity. However, the headrests also have to be durable, provide support and be comfortable, as patients must lie still during the test.

Demand for 3D printing for the medical field is expected to grow through 2020. Currently, healthcare represents 1.6 percent of the total 3D printing market. However, forecasts project this to climb to 25 percent in the near future.
