The Cheluvamba Government Hospital for Women and Children will add its neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) with new beds and necessary equipment.

The proposal was initiated to meet the emergency medical services needs and make it available to more patients, the timesofindia reports.

Cheluvamba Hospital medical superintendent Krishnamurthy said a proposal was given to National Rural Health Mission director Selva Kumar to upgrade the NICU and PICU a few weeks ago, and he immediately agreed and granted a fund of Rs 2 crore immediately.

"In the NICU, 20 more beds and other vital equipment including open care warmers, vital signal monitors, infusion pumps, ventilators and photo therapy units will be installed soon," Krishnamurthy said.

"Six intensive care beds and necessary equipment will be installed in the PICU."
