The FDA-cleared Powerheart G5 is the firm’s latest tool that will be used in the treatment of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).

Cardiac Science general manager and sales and marketing senior vice-president Al Ford said: "Every day there is an instance where an AED has made, or would have made, the difference between life or death.

"Cardiac Science has pioneered life-saving AED technology for over 20 years, and the Powerheart G5 is the next chapter."

The Powerheart G5 helps both professional and first-time users to quickly offer effective and life-saving therapy. It features patented RescueCoach voice and text prompts that allow responders to carry out a rescue with user-paced instruction.

The tool uses variable escalating energy during a rescue to provide customized energy needed by the patient and defibrillation energy automatically escalates if additional shocks are needed.

According to the company, Powerheart G5 increases the energy input to an appropriate higher level, if more than one shock is required.
