Capella Healthcare has selected athenahealth's EHR service, athenaClinicalsSM, for its owned physician network that is comprised of over 130 medical providers. Capella Healthcare's owned physician network currently uses athenahealth's web-based physician medical billing and practice management service, athenaCollector.

athenahealth is a provider of web-based practice management, electronic health record (EHR) and patient communication services to medical groups.

athenaClinicals is expected to play a key role in Capella Healthcare’s efforts to further support clinical IT adoption and connectivity among its owned and affiliated physician practices across the nation.

athenahealth’s solutions will also play a critical role as Capella Healthcare looks to execute on a new clinical connectivity platform that will support easier and more effective transfer of clinical and administrative health information across its growing enterprise, ultimately driving improvements to patient care and reductions in administrative costs.

As part of the new partnership, Capella Healthcare will be utilising athenahealth’s federal stimulus bonus payment guarantee program that guarantees that physicians who use its EHR service will receive a HITECH Act bonus payment under the 2011 program year.

Jonathan Bush, chairman and CEO of athenahealth, said: “By embracing our integrated EHR and practice management services, Capella physicians can benefit from the collective clinical and operational knowledge and best practices of thousands of medical groups around the nation, in turn allowing them to increase their own clinical and operational performance.

“This level of insight unique to our platform ultimately enables a better patient experience and better clinical outcomes.”

Michael Wiechart, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Capella Healthcare, said: “Capella continuously evaluates new technologies that will help our owned and affiliated physicians deliver the highest level of patient care in the most cost effective way. We did our due diligence and felt athenahealth stood apart due to its ability to deliver flexible, web-based clinical and revenue cycle management services.

“Our expanded relationship will help to ensure the success of our owned and affiliated physician practices by helping them to fully participate in emerging incentive programs like the HITECH Act, to achieve quality-of-care goals and to execute on physician community connectivity strategies.”
