BSD Medical has treated four cancer patients at Ospedaliera Spedali Civili in Brescia, Istituto Clinico Humanitas in Rozzano, Instituto Europeo Di Oncologia in Milano and Ospedale di San Giovanni Battista in Torino, in Italy, using its new MicroThermX Microwave Ablation System (MTX-180).
The MTX-180 includes a microwave generator, single-patient-use disposable antennas, and a thermistor-based temperature monitoring system.
BSD Medical said Med-Italia Biomedica (Med-Italia), a distributor and manufacturer of products designed for the interventional radiology and oncology market in Italy, purchased the MTX-180 system and coordinated the delivery of the treatments.
Reportedly, the US Food and Drug Administration has granted 510(k) clearance to market the MTX-180 for ablation of soft tissue.
BSD has also received CE marking for the MTX-180 System.
