BSD Medical has reported that initial patient treatments are conducted at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, using its new MicroThermX Microwave Ablation System.
BSD said MicroThermX is a compact, mobile, proprietary system that includes a microwave generator, single-patient-use disposable antennas, and a thermistor-based temperature monitoring system.
The MicroThermX’s design allows delivery of higher power levels using a single generator and utilizes synchronous phased array technology that was developed and patented by BSD to provide larger and more uniform zones of ablation during a single procedure.
Interventional radiologist Michael Savin said the MicroThermX Microwave Ablation System offers patients a promising, new alternative for treating certain cancers with potential benefits such as less invasiveness and more uniform zones of ablation.
