The Surfacer Inside-Out Access Catheter System allows physicians to perform a inside-out approach to gain venous access by impenetrating the vein by a guide wire or standard access techniques.

The feasibility, single-center and prospective study, enrolling up to 10 patients, is designed to assess the safety and effectiveness of the Surfacer in patients with upper extremity venous occlusion.

Study principal investigator Adrian Ebner said the Surfacer’s inside-out approach is minimally invasive and simple to perform, and it has demonstrated the ability to reestablish access in the first series of study patients.

Bluegrass Vascular Technologies president James Clifton said they are thrilled to be underway with this research and look forward to announce the study results in 2012.
