bioMerieux has introduced a new food safety testing method VIDAS UP Salmonella (SPT) to detect Salmonella presence in various samples.

The new VIDAS SPT assay, utilizes phage protein technology to detect low levels of contamination by Salmonella and is a diagnostic tool used for screening Salmonella in environmental samples, standard and food samples.

The VIDAS SPT’s technology complements the company’s VIDAS E. coli O157 (including H7) phage technology for the detection of Escherichia coli O157:H7.

The phage protein technology provides one-step sample preparation which delivers results in 19 hours as compared to reference methods which require up to three days.

bioMerieux Industrial Microbiology corporate vice president Jean-Marc Durano said VIDAS SPT is the latest addition to the VIDAS UP which help to simplify agri-food laboratories’ workflow and deliver information to maximize the efficiency of food production.
