US-based medical device contract manufacturer Biomerics has completed the 100,000ft2 expansion of its manufacturing facility in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, to a total size of 170,000ft2.
The expansion, driven by increased demand, will benefit the customers and consolidate the medical device company’s multiple facilities under one roof.
It will also expand the company’s engineering centres of excellence for complex extrusions, laser processing and advanced catheters and steerables, along with final assembly operations.
Biomerics’ main facility at Brooklyn Park facilitates the design, development and production of complex and specialised catheters, steerable devices and delivery systems.
The 100,000ft2 expansion includes a 20,000ft2 dedicated to micro metals laser processing, 24,000ft2 for complex extrusion processing, and 10,000ft2 for advanced catheter processing.
It also provides additional space for employee training and office space.
Biomerics Brooklyn Park president Tom Winegar said: “This expansion consolidates all Biomerics’ Minnesota operations under one roof.
“This allows for a one-stop shop for our customers to meet their design and manufacturing needs for micro metals processing, advanced extrusion, product development, advanced catheters and advanced steerables.”
Biomerics advanced interventional catheter president Chris Richardson said: “Our Center of Excellence for Advanced Catheters & Steerables in Minnesota understands the advanced engineering capabilities needed to bring innovative interventional devices to market.”
Biomerics said that the new space will help triple its extrusion output over the next five years to address the increased customer demand for high-quality medical extrusions and catheters.
It allows Brooklyn Park’s extrusion and catheter teams to collaborate with Biomerics’ custom proprietary polyurethane manufacturing team in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Also, the expansion combines the engineering expertise of its unique thermoplastic materials and compounds for medical tubing, said the medical device company.
