Biolase Technology, the dental laser company, has received approval from Health Canada-Medical Device Bureau to sell its iLase personal dental laser systems throughout Canada.

Biolase Technology claimed that the iLase diode laser is the first personal laser for dentists and hygienists for performing a full-range of minimally invasive soft-tissue and hygiene procedures. It is also the first self-contained, hand-held dental laser that includes the laser, user interface, battery power, and controls in a single, integrated handpiece with no foot pedals or cords.

David Mulder, chief executive officer, said: “This approval is significant in expanding the market for this revolutionary new product. The response to the iLase has been overwhelming. A key byproduct of the iLase is its importance in drawing attention to the potential of pain-free laser dentistry, its ease of use and clinically superior results.

“The iLase is already proving its value for our sales team as they introduce and demonstrate our laser technology as essential tools in dentistry to new potential customers around the world.”
